My latest adventure involved a trip aboard the aircraft carrier USS Nimitz while she was at sea. From flight ops to speaking with the man in charge of her twin 60,000 pound anchors, it was unforgettable.

Joe Kerper: freelance writer & photographer; small business owner

As a communicator, Kerper has been writing professionally since high school and is a honors graduate of St Lawrence University with a degree in English writing. Appearing in dozens of newspapers and magazines, Kerper writes about his passions—hunting, backpacking and the shooting sports. He has worked in the public relations department of the National Rifle Association of America (NRA) where he traveled extensively documenting many of the over 150 safety and educational programs of the NRA.

Currently a stay-at-home dad in order to spend as much time as possible with his young children he also runs a sporting goods business that specializes in satisfying the nation-wide demand for rare, investment-grade firearms.

Kerper is a member of the North American Nature Photography Association as well as the Rocky Mountain Outdoor Writers and Photographers Association. Additionally, he is an accredited firearm instructor, consultant for the firearm industry, Federal Firearm License holder, and offers editorial consultancy for hunting and shooting related outdoor magazines and publishers.

Kerper is active in his community, having volunteered with conservation groups, government agencies including the Colorado Division of Wildlife and the Army Corps of Engineers and has served on the leadership board of his church. He most recently served on the school board of the Episcopal Day School of Evergreen.
